How to Make Italian Style Carbonara Healthier

Published by mariella at 7:44 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I’ve decided to try and make this recipe soon after seeing the recipe with photographs on the Pioneer Woman web site.

It looks really good but does use a lot of high fat products including a pound of bacon and one half of a stick of butter, Parmesan cheese, four eggs, lingini and salt and pepper and parsley.

It looks really good but I’m thinking it could be made a little less caloric with a few minor tweaks that don’t take away from the taste.

Here’s what I’ll do:
Use one third stick of butter and a splash of good olive oil.
Use a little less parmesan. It calls for about a cup.
Try and find some low salt, low sugar bacon or use half regular bacon and half turkey bacon.
The eggs are necessary for the sauce and are a good source of protein and other nutrients so I’ll leave that as is.
I may be able to find high fiber linguini and that’ll help lower the carbs so blood sugar keeps stable.

I let you know how it goes. I’m looking forward to making this meal.

Sounds good and you can probably find some wheat linguini to use.
